Prof. MP Petrangeli carried out all the design stages, from conceptual up to construction design of the Arezzo Sud - Figline Valdarno section on behalf of the Fe.SPI Consortium. The overall length of this section was 44,093km, consisting of 16175m of viaducts (31%), 11800m of tunnels (23%) and 24018m of embankments and cuttings (46%). The section was divided into 5 territorial lots. The most relevant works of the entire section of the "Direttissima" railway line Rome - Florence are the main spans of the bridge crossing the Arno, as part of the whole Arno Viaduct, spanning a total length of 1722m. The inclusion in an area of considerable landscape value, the considerable height of the rail level with respect to the riverbed, of more than 55m, the width of the watercourse reaching 160m in the crossing section: these are the aspects that have uniquely characterized this bridge.
