RAILWAY CABLE-STAYED BRIDGE ON THE RIVER PO (San Rocco al Porto - Lodi - Italy)

The new high-capacity Bologna-Milan line crosses the Po river a kilometer downstream from Piacenza, in a stretch where the stream bed has a width of about 350m and the distance between the main banks is more than 1 km. The bridge,  sloped  about 22° from the river, has a length of about 1200m of which about 400m are necessary for the crossing of the river itself. The requirements imposed by the navigability of the river and the environmental conditions have led to the choice of a cable-stayed bridge with a main span of length 192m and two 104-m-long shore spans.

DIRETTISSIMA ROMA - FIRENZE TRACK AREZZO SUD - FIGLINE VALDARNO (Italy)

Prof. MP Petrangeli carried out all the design stages, from conceptual up to construction design of the Arezzo Sud - Figline Valdarno section on behalf of the Fe.SPI Consortium. The overall length of this section was 44,093km, consisting of 16175m of viaducts (31%), 11800m of tunnels (23%) and 24018m of embankments and cuttings (46%). The section was divided into 5 territorial lots. The most relevant works of the entire section of the "Direttissima" railway line Rome - Florence are the main spans of the bridge crossing the Arno, as part of the whole Arno Viaduct, spanning a total length of 1722m. The inclusion in an area of considerable landscape value, the considerable height of the rail level with respect to the riverbed, of more than 55m, the width of the watercourse reaching 160m in the crossing section: these are the aspects that have uniquely characterized this bridge.
